(Extremely) dry skin indicates a weaker lipid layer and a shortage of (oil) fat, which leads to moisture loss, dehydration and, as a result, eczema. A dry skin type can arise genetically, but can also be caused by external influences such as seasonal changes, hot (long) showers, incorrect soap/ointments, stress or medication.
